Virtual Living Redefined
We're moving house! This site is being rebuilt on new infrastructure โ soon it'll connect straight into our own OpenSim DreamGrid. Everything from the old site lives here for now, exactly as it was.
Welcome to our little shops. We make just about anything you can think of in Second Life. Watch this space for more information and fun announcements!
I added a new fishing area for anyone who wants to fish, or even hang out. The fox's forest is, as I said, for everyone. If you have any issues, let me know. I am also finishing up some of the new customs for this area and I'll put up announcements when they are loaded into the servers. Anyway, to get to the fox's Forest, the taxi is here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Makalu/189/143/78 Have fun!
In recent weeks, I have noticed a disturbing trend. So many people with LOTS of scripts attached to them. WHY so many scripts? I know I restrict the amount of scripts on my parcels to 10 but I have seen as many as 1200 scripts attached to ONE avatar. In my opinion, I felt that it is MY responsibility to make sure I don't make things for other people too difficult when visiting them or they're just viewing my avatar. Not everyone has a good internet connection or a great computer, so just to be nice, I TRY to keep my render cost low and my scripts at a minimum. Just for future reference, I do keep my parcel scripts to 10, if anything more, security will bump you out. If you have re-size scripts, why don't you just delete the scripts when you're done? Don't make everyone around you miserable just because you HAVE to have that hair. UPDATE: I HAVE turned off the script and render limitations, for now. Please though, remember what you have on you effects those around you. Not EVERYONE has a really good computer or great internet. Thanks.
As some of you have noticed, my in-world shops and Creative Academy have been closed for some time now, and very limited access to my parcels is set. Due to the inordinate amount of attention, I have received, I'm going to address why that is. First of all, let me make clear that I am not against using Second Life roads. I welcome it. I like seeing what everyone is driving and laughing at some of the unusual creations. I miss it when Zipper Wurgle doesn't come by for a few days, or he flies his airplanes, because Zipper is one creative person, and I like the creativity. What I don't like is the rudeness that sometimes, and more often recently, comes with those who race. I don't like racing on Mainland roads. It's too easy to get around parcel flags and bans. When I have filed ARs, I have asked that Linden Labs create a place where people CAN race. We have sailing sims, we have sims with railroad tracks, why not sims that have racing? About 6 months ago there was this avatar who was racing by my parcels on Route 8 often โ I mean it was ALL THE TIME. He would race through, and at the end of my parcels, fly through my shop and parcels to get back to wherever he came from instead of just teleporting. No apology, no asking if it was ok, no explanation, no nothing. So I banned him. He kept doing it, was fast enough that the parcel flags didn't keep him out, and the harassment continued, so he got AR'd. I hate filing ARs. At that time I had a neighbor with so many scripts that every time I logged in, her scripts would crash my high-end gaming computer. I had patience with her and tolerated it, hoping she would go elsewhere. So when people are so rude and inconsiderate that they keep doing the same things over and over, I start considering my options. That is when I figured it was easier to set my parcels to group only and be done with it. But this was just the beginning. The next thing I know, I get an IM from a person, who will remain nameless, demanding I change my parcel permissions back because it's deleting people's cars. I told her no, and before I could explain why, she was calling me names. She got muted and perma-banned and I thought that was the end of it. Then I got a new security orb โ it catches bot-like sim-jumping behavior and bans on that. The problem is it also catches racers doing the same thing. For me this isn't a problem, but for the racers, it is. Then the aforementioned person got mad when I refused to change my parcel permissions, told her friends exaggerated stories, and I got hate notecards, unwanted visits, and eventually alts and proxies being used to harass me. This is stalking. This is harassment. So the parcels got set to access list only, permissions set to no IMs, autoresponse turned on, and tolerances lowered. I know not everyone has the option of a private parcel, and I do like living on the mainland. Except for the occasional weenie, I love having people over and seeing what I've made as well as making new friends. I just refuse to have that abused. I PAY for my land and would like a bit of respect, courtesy, and consideration. I like seeing drivers using the road โ it's neat to see people exploring Second Life. It's just the few that ruin it for the rest of us. I hope one day I can turn these restrictions off and open my stores and the Creative Academy again, but after the last few episodes this week, I'm not sure it's going to be soon.
I was asked last week why my parcels are set to private. Since this was the first time someone inquired, and they asked politely, I was happy to respond. While I can't go into too much detail due to law enforcement involvement, I can say that some Second Life drivers have become pretty entitled. This is the reason that so many places in the real world don't want tourists โ the same is true in Second Life. Earlier today, my neighbor received a message from someone complaining about trees she had placed along Route 8, which were set to non-physical (phantom) specifically to avoid issues. The driver had a hair-trigger temper and was added to the parcel ban list. The entitlement of some SL road drivers is unreal. If you ban them, they overreact, accuse you of griefing, and throw a tantrum. I personally have my security orb set to auto-ban bots, bot-like behavior, excessive scripts, and high render costs. My parcels are currently on lockdown because certain individuals have been using copybot viewers to do shady things โ after endless complaints to LL, I've decided to remain in lockdown for peace and quiet. I've been here long before groups like GTFO and Drivers of SL came along, and never had issues until they arrived. As far as I'm concerned, those groups are the real griefers and interlopers. Everyone has the right to live where they choose in SL, and if banning rude or disruptive people is necessary to maintain peace, then that's fine. Banning doesn't make someone a griefer โ it protects landowners from nonsense, rudeness, and disrespect. For me, SL is an escape. It's how I experience nature, which I can no longer do in real life. I have parcels set up so others can enjoy what SL nature has to offer, and I'd never want to facilitate harm to anyone's hard work โ the script-heavy, lag-heavy vehicles and avatars just take away from that peace, so unfortunately, lockdown is enabled for now. I do try to make high quality products, and nothing makes me happier than seeing my creations around Second Life. So to make things easier for my customers as well as protect my creations, my policies are as follows:
1. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a notecard with any questions, requests, thoughts or comments. I will get back to you as soon as possible. Why no IMs? Because most often I am in Blender or another program and won't see your IM, and if I get logged out I have no way of knowing you contacted me. You can also leave a message with Lily Shirakawa (CastawayParadise Resident) in my shop.
2. Please remember that if you treat me with respect, I will be more than happy to do so in return. I want you to be happy with my products, but I will not be abused. If you choose that route, I have no option but to add you to my mute list.
3. Please contact me before leaving a negative review in the marketplace โ I'm here to make your purchase experience a good one.
4. I do my best with my products (permissions, completeness, etc.), but Second Life being what it is, things sometimes get messed up. If your permissions aren't what the ad says, let me know and I'll fix it. Please keep in mind though: full-perm building/creation kits and supplies, and the final texture and final build, are NOT full permission โ I'd love to hand that over, but I feel you do need to do some of that work. :)
Note: all creations and builds are registered with the US Copyright Office and protected under international copyright laws. Any violations will be reported to the proper authorities and legal action will be taken.
